Individual Therapy
Individual therapy, also known as one-on-one therapy, is a collaborative process between a client and a licensed therapist designed to address personal challenges and promote mental well-being. This therapeutic approach provides a confidential and supportive environment where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with the goal of achieving personal growth and resolving issues.
In individual therapy, the therapist and client work together to identify and understand the underlying causes of emotional or psychological difficulties. Therapy sessions typically involve discussing concerns, setting goals, and developing strategies to overcome obstacles. Common therapeutic techniques used may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), among others.
Individual therapy is tailored to meet each client’s specific needs, offering a personalized approach to address a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. Through this process, clients gain insights, build coping skills, and work towards achieving a healthier and more balanced life.
Whether you are seeking to resolve specific issues or explore personal development, individual therapy provides a valuable opportunity for self-discovery and positive change.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
At Mindful Innovations, we offer Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as a cornerstone of our therapeutic services. DBT is an evidence-based approach designed to help individuals manage intense emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and cultivate a more balanced and fulfilling life.
Developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan, DBT is a structured form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that incorporates mindfulness and acceptance strategies. It is particularly effective for individuals who struggle with emotional dysregulation, self-destructive behaviors, and chronic feelings of emptiness or instability.
Key Components of DBT:
Mindfulness: DBT emphasizes the importance of being present in the moment and fully engaging with one's thoughts and feelings without judgment. Mindfulness skills help individuals become more aware of their emotional states and reduce impulsivity.
Distress Tolerance: This component focuses on building resilience and coping skills to manage crises and emotional pain without resorting to harmful behaviors. Techniques include self-soothing, distraction, and acceptance strategies.
Emotion Regulation: DBT teaches strategies to identify, understand, and manage intense emotions effectively. Skills in this area help clients reduce emotional vulnerability and increase emotional stability.
Interpersonal Effectiveness: This module provides tools for improving communication and building healthier relationships. It focuses on assertiveness, setting boundaries, and maintaining self-respect while interacting with others.
Our Approach to DBT:
At Mindful Innovations, our DBT program is tailored to meet each client’s unique needs. Our skilled therapists provide individual therapy sessions, group skills training, and phone coaching to support clients between sessions. We integrate DBT principles into a comprehensive treatment plan aimed at fostering meaningful change and promoting long-term emotional well-being.
Whether you are dealing with mood disorders, anxiety, or interpersonal challenges, DBT at Mindful Innovations offers a structured and compassionate approach to help you achieve a more balanced and fulfilling life.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
At Mindful Innovations, we are proud to offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy as a key component of our mental health services. EMDR is a highly effective, evidence-based approach designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences and distressing memories.
What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR therapy, developed by Francine Shapiro, is a structured therapeutic technique that involves processing traumatic memories through guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation. The goal of EMDR is to reduce the emotional charge associated with these memories, enabling individuals to reprocess them in a way that fosters healing and resolution.
Core Components of EMDR Therapy:
History Taking and Treatment Planning: The therapist works with the client to understand their history and identify specific traumatic memories or distressing events that need to be addressed.
Preparation: This phase involves establishing a trusting therapeutic relationship and teaching clients coping strategies to manage distress during and between sessions.
Assessment: The therapist and client identify specific targets for reprocessing, such as negative beliefs or distressing emotions associated with the traumatic memory.
Desensitization: Through bilateral stimulation (typically in the form of guided eye movements), the client reprocesses the traumatic memory, reducing its emotional intensity and associated distress.
Installation: Positive beliefs and adaptive thoughts are reinforced to replace the previously negative or self-limiting beliefs associated with the trauma.
Body Scan: The therapist helps the client identify and process any remaining physical tension or discomfort related to the traumatic memory.
Closure: Techniques are used to help the client return to a state of equilibrium and prepare for the next steps in their therapeutic journey.
Reevaluation: In subsequent sessions, the therapist and client review progress and address any residual issues or new challenges.

Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT) is designed for individuals seeking to enhance their openness to experiences, emotional warmth, interpersonal connections, passion, and flexibility. This therapeutic approach targets overcontrol, a tendency often observed in individuals who are excessively agreeable or appear rigid and distant. Overcontrolled individuals frequently struggle with emotional expression, experience a heightened need for control, and may delay immediate gratification to achieve long-term goals. They often focus on mistakes rather than successes and may experience stress when goals are unmet or become compulsive in addressing issues.
RO DBT is an evidence-based therapy supported by over 30 years of research in translational treatment development. It addresses various personality traits and disorders associated with overcontrol, including Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder, Paranoid Personality Disorder, Anorexia Nervosa, Chronic Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and anxiety disorders. Rather than focusing on the disorder itself, RO DBT aims to improve social functioning and reduce maladaptive overcontrol.
Characteristics of Overcontrolled Individuals:
They work diligently to prevent future problems, often without drawing attention to their efforts.
They may exhibit hyper-detail-focused perfectionism and self-criticism.
They might avoid feedback and novel situations.
They often prefer structured environments and can be rigid in their interactions.
They may appear aloof or distant in relationships and be inhibited in their emotional expressions.
These traits can contribute to feelings of loneliness and social disconnection.
Core Concepts of RO DBT:
RO DBT emphasizes the development of radical openness—actively seeking experiences that may be avoided or uncomfortable in order to foster personal growth. This contrasts with radical acceptance, which focuses on tolerating pain and relinquishing resistance to reality. Radical openness involves embracing disconfirming feedback and confronting novel or challenging emotions.
Through weekly skills training sessions spanning over 30 weeks, RO DBT helps individuals reduce behavioral overcontrol, increase emotional expressiveness, and enhance social connectedness. For optimal results, it is recommended to engage with a qualified RO DBT therapist and participate in skills group training.
Substance Use and Addictions Treatment
At Mindful Innovations, clients receive comprehensive support to effectively manage and overcome substance abuse urges. Our approach is centered on collaborative goal-setting and treatment processes, fostering mindfulness and self-awareness to enhance internal regulation of urges and maladaptive behaviors.
Clients will acquire essential skills for relapse prevention, address lapses and relapses constructively, and develop strategies for managing high-risk situations. Our treatment integrates techniques from Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to support effective management and recovery.
We view substance use and addictive behaviors as symptoms of underlying mental health issues. Often, these behaviors are driven by core beliefs that need to be addressed. While relapse prevention is crucial for stabilization, understanding and resolving the root causes of addictive behaviors is equally important. Our focus is on both managing symptoms and healing underlying issues to improve overall quality of life and address maladaptive patterns of behavior.
Sex Offender Assessment and Treatment
At Mindful Innovations, we offer comprehensive risk assessments conducted by a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider (CSOTP). Our services cater to individuals with a history of sexual offenses, those undergoing court-ordered treatment, or individuals seeking a deeper understanding of their urges and tendencies. We conduct thorough psychosexual evaluations using standardized testing to formulate precise treatment recommendations.
Our sexual offender treatment program focuses on managing urges, addressing maladaptive thought patterns, and enhancing regulation strategies to address unhealthy behaviors. While these services are primarily delivered via telehealth, in-person sessions can be arranged if deemed appropriate by the provider.
